We believe public art has the power to transform how we understand and tackle the climate crisis.

Sustainability Art Land Tide

SALT was co-founded by Lisa Cochrane and Deborah Carver to create a producing structure for public art projects which address climate change issues in Nova Scotia and across the country. We are globally minded with a focus on local impact on several fronts: clean power generation, coastal erosion mitigation, community resilience building, and excellence in design.

The problem

The majority of the public accept that the climate emergency is a reality. However, the scale of the crisis creates a sense of powerlessness and disconnection, preventing individuals and communities from taking action to create meaningful change.

The solution

Art can break through these barriers. By explaining the climate emergency in engaging and creative ways, art connects communities, inspires action, and celebrates every step towards climate change resilience and adaptation.

The vision

A future where climate solutions are met with enthusiasm and widespread participation, powered by individual creativity and community collaboration.

The mandate

SALT’s mission is to develop, lead and nurture art-driven projects that bring climate challenge solutions to life.
